Poems for Peace ~ Buffalo by Rose Cook

Carolyn Jess-Cooke has nominated me for the Post a Poem a Day for 5 days challenge. So here is ‘Buffalo’ which is in my latest collection Notes From a Bright Field (Cultured Llama Publishing, 2013) and I nominate Anthony Wilson to post one of his poems every day for 5 days and tag someone new each day.

I went to the zoo and sat by a fence,
right near the head of a sleeping buffalo,
I sat there for a long time while he slept.

His head was massive, warm and heavy.
He shuffled a little in his sleep.
I sat by him until I was still as a prairie and wide.

He showed me some mystery and wildness
and that he still had his dreams.
